Spooky LOROS fund raising event at Harborough Theatre
on Friday the 13th provides few twists, everyone escapes unscathed!
A spooky fund raiser for LOROS, resurrected after 10 years by
a former student of a Leicester College, and now, organised by
his organisation SSCOM-Group (Simon Shiekh Communications Group),
a Voluntary PR/Media Agency for Leics, entitled "I'm a Scared
Student….Get Me Out Of Here…Cause It's Haunted!",
the most chilling "reality TV documentary recording",
since Big Brother 5 etc, was filmed, with some very interesting
moments, captured on film. You could say it was more or less like
a comedy "horror". It all took place last Friday 13th
to Saturday 14th August-(7.30pm-7.30am), at the Harborough Theatre,
Market Harborough, Leics, renowned as being an ancient market
town, which apparently, the whole town has a haunted presence!
Six brave individuals all took part, namely, Ayaz Sheikh (33),
local born and bred to Leicester, being the Founder/Managing Director
of www.sscom-group.com
(reprising his original role from April 1994 at Tutbury Castle,
East Staffs), Andrew Wright (49), a "Spectrologist"
(as he defines himself) also from Leicester, Carol Slark (55)
from Desborough, Northants, the students in question, Nick Phillips
(19) from Narborough, Leics, Leanne Battista (19) from Lutterworth,
Leics, and her mum, Ann (Battista), (48) also from Lutterworth,
Leics, the latter, being "roped in" on the evening itself.
However, the project almost collapsed, (organized since February
this year), due to a last minute student drop out, after Spectrologist,
Andrew, came forward within 2 weeks of the event, offering his
paranormal expertise for FREE. Ayaz said, "He's been very
instrumental to the project in such a short space of time, as
we needed a real angle to the whole thing. I couldn't have asked
for anyone more humorous and knowledgeable than Andrew, to give
me the edge to turn it round remarkably, and am grateful for all
his help. Andrew has now been offered the opportunity to contribute
to any future projects, relating to the paranormal, and will be
fascinating to local people who should take part, under his experience
in the future".
As regards the event, the film caught some "gripping"
moments, which Ayaz believes, (after playing back a few days ago),
will be of real interest to the people of Britain, as he now hopes
to negotiate via the SSCOM-Group, of terrestrial viewing. "This
is an exclusive documentary, which not only has a reality angle
to it, but something that has been done, on the spot, not pre-planned,
but using the 12 hours to film spontaneously, of which I'm really
pleased about the actual results. It's also fascinating that it
hopefully will be a huge fund raiser for LOROS, of which I wanted
to have a unique angle to, as regards my previous charity events,
since 1988, but waiting nine years since my last one, (and also
resurrecting one after ten years), is even better and more exciting!"
Andrew's reflection to the event was that, "absolutely nothing
of major interest occurred. Although I was fascinated to hear
that a 'ghostly Italian caretaker', appeared, unannounced at 5am,
cleaned the lounge etc, (of which Ayaz, Ann and Leanne witnessed
and spoke to), I was oblivious of this, as I decided to have a
sleep, all alone in the darkened auditorium of the theatre. Ayaz
has him on film, so I'm looking forward to seeing him for myself,
as according to the Theatre Manager - Kevin Quinn, he denied knowing
of this caretaker! One or two 'shuffling' noises near the front
of the stage were heard by one of the students. Also my negative
ion detector managed to pick up quite a substantial dose of static,
in simplistic terms, so there was some kind of energy there, which
diminished slowly by the morning. Overall, I felt it was a worthwhile
evening, and am glad everyone enjoyed the experience, via my contribution."
Carol Slark added, "A very interesting evening for me, quite
surprising as I managed to pick up quite a lot, in terms of sensing
things. I felt that there were three ghosts, all male. Two of
them were going back to the time of the murders, firstly, the
person who murdered Mr Bell, and the Patron of the seedy inn:
"The Green Dragon", which was the site of the theatre,
going back to Dick Turpin times, he was a farmworker, apparently.
The last ghost was someone who died 52 years ago, when the site
was the Symmingtons Factory, he died of a heart attack or natural
causes. I also definitely sensed a bad presence near the stage,
where the steps lead to the downstairs toilets area; here it is
believed that a chap murdered the barmaid! Overall, I enjoyed
the experience and am glad to have contributed and look forward
to handing over my sponsorship money to LOROS in due course."
Leanne and Nick said, "We really enjoyed the overall experience,
after being taken on within two days remaining of the event, fascinating
to have taken part in such a surreal event-made the most of the
paranormal senses. We also both managed to stay up all night,
and well worth it. We also sensed a reflection of an "orb"
at about 6am, and sensed the attic door, could feel something,
not sure what it was. Now we're looking forward to raising as
much money as possible, to put forward to the forthcoming total
for LOROS. We are also both grateful to Leanne's mum, Ann to come
and support us at the last minute".
Local MP, Edward Garnier said, "I am delighted to give my
support to the LOROS fund raising event at Market Harborough Theatre
organised by Ayaz Sheikh and the SSCOM-Group. Having been to the
LOROS Hospice on the Groby Road, Leicester, I am only too well
aware of the valuable work that the LOROS medical staff and volunteers
do to alleviate the suffering of those with life threatening diseases.
They get no help from the Government even though they are helping
reduce the burden on the NHS so every penny they need has to come
from donations from the public. This event will go some way to
help LOROS in raising some much needed money and I trust it will
be a great success."
Ayaz adds, "Now that the event is over, I'm now going to
act upon a promotional plan, which I always believed would help
us to raise the worthwhile funds. This is a huge challenge for
me, but of one I know will be of useful help. We will be letting
as many people, businesses, organisations, friends/families of
participants of this event, as it should interest quite a bit
of the Leics people. As this also will be of interest to the student
market, particularly in relation to the "I'm a Scared Student….Get
Me Out Of Here…Cause It's Haunted!" theme, (most people
like "reality" stuff), I hope that this will be a unique
project, to help us get the funds for LOROS, as originally anticipated.
This is also going to be a revised Voluntary PR outlet for Leics/Rutland
and we have some interesting stuff to come, as time goes by, and
we'll break the news when anything comes to light. Anyone who
believes SSCOM.GROUP can be of help to them, please contact us
on the contact details below.
However, we would be grateful if you can sponsor us in the meantime
directly, any amount you can spare, will be much appreciated.
You can do this and/or donate for this event, by either sending
cheques, made payable to SSCOM-Group to: PO BOX 5091, Leicester,
LE4 7XX, e-mail: info@sscom-group.com
(or view the Website: www.sscom-group.com
and apply on our mailform facility), to let us know where we can
come and collect directly-also by phoning/texting 07817 057078
and also direct to LOROS itself, relating to the event-more details
on how to are on: www.loros.co.uk,
or call the fund raising dept on 0116 2318431, and mention that
you’re donating to this event.
We are looking to host an after show party on the evening of
Saturday 4th December, at a venue in Leics to be confirmed, more
details will be announced on the official Group website: www.sscom-group.com,
where we will have the official cheque presentation, and invite
as many people as possible, local organisations, and those who
have been relevant to the project, of which we're also very grateful
of their help and support so far. It is also hoped that by this
time, the TV documentary would have been shown, of which we'll
let you know when the time comes. Also, more pics/quotes from
the event will follow shortly.
