'Ghost-hunting' was 1994's event, but ten years on, what did everyone concerned let themselves
in for? in the resurrection event, 'I'm a Scared Student ...
Get Me Out of Here ... 'Cause It’s Haunted!' We raised
money for an excellent cause-(A TOTAL OF £295), again being for Leics Hospice-LOROS. It was a fascinating 12 hours and took place between 7.30pm Friday 13th August to 7.30am Saturday 14th
August 2004, at the Harborough
Theatre, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
Preview of the film:
The film looks at how the participants met up initially, congregating outside the theatre, brief interviews with their family/friends, before being led into the theatre itself. There is also a funny intake where Ayaz and Nick ventured out into Market Harborough town centre, and tried to look for a store open for groceries! Even though the film is related to the paranormal, it certainly captured some funny moments, "reality" style, so you could say it looks like "big brother", ghostly style!! Andrew Wright-the Spectrologist, is entertaining, with his sceptical outlook on the paranormal. The climax of the film captured the "mysterious caretaker" that appeared in the dining lounge at 5am, much to the surprise of Ayaz and Leanne!-as the theatre associates say they never arranged for "him" to come in-so was he a "ghost"?
There is also an exclusive interview with Senior Fund-raiser of the charity LOROS-Adrian Walker, who talks about the event, what LOROS is about and how a volunteer could benefit/make a contribution to the cancer hospice charity, (which celebrated it's 20th anniversary in September 2005).
I believe that if you're a "Reality TV" fan and love your "Big Brother"/"I'm a Celebrity...", then you'll love this satire!-whether you're a paranormal fan, or not!
Overall, it promises to be an interesting and entertaining 46 min film!
The event also involved local newspaper coverage-(including in the Leicester Mercury & the Harborough Mail's weekly edition), both before and after the event-SSCOM GROUP achieved it's biggest PR coverage to date, including "live" local radio interviews from the theatre itself with all the participants on East Midlands Radio Station-SAGA 106.6fm (now known as Smooth Radio-East Mids) between 11.30pm and Midnight.
BBC Radio Leicester-104.9FM were also a welcome help in covering it, including a "live" interview in the studio with Ayaz on the preceding Monday's afternoon show before the event, (when the appeal to find the required students was launched after a last-minute hitch), and also on the Friday afternoon show before the event started. Their BBC in the Midlands coverage late show later on that Friday evening, also had an exclusive "live" radio interview with Spectrologist, Andrew Wright from the event, and also with him on the following Monday evening's show. In addition, (upon their return back to Leicester via train from Market Harborough on the Saturday morning), Ayaz and Andrew were both interviewed "live" by the stand in-breakfast show presenter, being former Leicester Sound's Kenny Hague, reflecting back on the previous 12-hour's events. The newsroom also did a pre-recorded interview with Andrew for the news bulletins to come, on that Saturday.

Other members of the team for this exclusive event were as follows:
Andrew Wright
Carol Slark
The students were:
Nick Phillips
Leanne Battista
Andrew Wright - Spectrologist - 53 - Leicester
Involved
in Ghost Research since 1976. Invented the word "Spectrologist"…Spectrology
is the study of ghosts, so the singular. Andrew has spent literally
hundreds of nights in allegedly haunted locations. He prefers
the "old fashioned" methods, and not to have a Website,
but content to use a typewriter instead-as he thinks Computers
are a pain! Andrew has yet to experience any definite sighting
of any apparition but thinks he may have had an encounter, but
not 100% certain. Describes himself as something of a mild eccentric,
one has to be, to involve oneself in such a subject. He has no
fear, whatsoever of wandering alone in stygian darkness for a
glimpse of any phantom, but will holler and run like hell if a
spider appears!! He thinks some ghosts are "created"
by others during the state of shock on hearing of the "sudden
death", a picture is held of that person who somehow, is
"replayed" periodically.
Andrew maintains a "laid back" & "flippant"
attitude to investigations which often annoys. "The cheery
façade helps me to get the best from possible witnesses
and "loosens up" any tension", he says.
Andrew likes a meal and a couple of beers before a long night
on the job. Not psychic but over the years, he has learned to
look for the signs that unearthly activity maybe present. He utilizes
specialist instrumentation in order to measure, record and get
an analytic angle to an onsite study. He has become "world
weary" and has been known to lose patience on long, drawn
out periods of observation: "Come on and stop buggering about
and show your bloody self", on occasions, there have been
some interesting results! Andrew thinks many experiences are down
to low sound frequency (infrasound) and long exposure to high
concentrations of electromagnetism. Sometimes, when entering a
room or on existing, he will greet or bid goodbye to fresh air.
This may seem cranky, but if a room seems active, simple politeness
to any entity that may be present, will only do good. "I don’t
fancy something "having a go", and as yet, nothing has", he says. And that is about it.

Carol Slark - 59 - Desborough, Northants
I
took part in the SSCOM-Group's spooky night vigil, at the Market
Harborough Theatre, on Friday 13th August. I have been interested
in the paranormal for many years now, and am an avid viewer of
all Ghost programs on TV, my favourite being "Most Haunted".
However, I’m no Yvette Fielding, so everyone expected to
see me very scared, if we all did see a ghost! I work for Specsavers
Opticians in Corby, Northants, where we reputedly have a spectre
of a "White Lady", walking our shop floor; she has been
seen by quite a few people, but so far, not by me.
It was a great event on Friday 13th!!, especially as we raised money for Leics hospice-LOROS, in aid of cancer sufferers, sadly
not many families can say that they have not been affected by
this disease, and it was/is close to my heart at the moment.

Nick Phillips - 23 - Narborough, Leics
I
was a former GCSE Sociology/Psychology student
at South Leicestershire College. My interests lie within music,
films, studying the paranormal and generally the darker side of
life. I've always been fascinated by this subject, and love the
idea of spending the night in a "haunted" building!
I haven't had many spooky encounters; a few bumps, noises in the
dead of the night, and I would love to have the biggest "fright
of my life", especially on a date, such as Friday the 13th!
But even better, in that the event of Friday 13th-August 2004 was all for a good cause.
A friendly, fun-loving person, I love to socialise and to meet
new people. I am always interested in new experiences.
I was lucky to be taken on at such short notice, and was on
the edge of my seat, with my best friend, Leanne (Battista), as we both enquired and applied to join this "surreal" experience,
It was a lot of fun and am glad to have taken part in the event.

Leanne Battista - 23 - Lutterworth, Leics
I
was a former student of Rugby College, Warwickshire. I
studied Art & Design. I am interested in music - rock and
metal and am in a small band with friends, and I love the alternative
scene.
I’m a bubbly, friendly person, always having a laugh. The
paranormal side fascinates me, but having said that, I don't know
much about it, but am afraid of ghosts & things that go "bump
in the night", and would like to face my fears! I have not
had any encounters as such, so I'm not 100% certain. it was a
surreal experience, especially when sitting in the darkness in
the auditorium from 2.30am onwards till 4am!! under Andrew (Wright's)
supervision.
The main reason that caught my eye for applying for this event,
with just 2 days left at the time, was because it was a fund-raiser,
especially for LOROS. I had just lost my uncle to cancer and
I felt this was a chance to help, and was definitely worth
it in the end. I’m up for being petrified, but with the
knowledge for a good cause such as that event, I didn't mind at all.
However, I was lucky, just like Nick (Phillips), to have been
given the exclusive opportunity to be the main focus of, "I'm
a Scared Student…Get Me Out of Here...Cause it’s
haunted!" It
was a very enjoyable experience and myself and Nick made the
most of it.
