Caribbean Carnival Raising Awareness Day, was Saturday 5th August, 2006 (which would’ve been carnival day itself, cancelled after 21 years).
- (also a day that the group officially launched as a revised Fund-Raising Management Agency)-to make up for the previous carnival days that attracted thousands of local people and also beyond.
The Leicester Caribbean Carnival which first hit the streets of Leicester on Saturday 3rd August 1985, needed extra funds to have a chance of hosting it again after being cancelled for August this year. It rose from 3,000 attending in 1985 to 20,000 in 1988. But by the late 90s and ever since, it attracted 100,000 (meaning it became the second biggest carnival of it's type in the UK after Notting Hill in London), which has contributed to costs rising to stage it, particularly by European Health & Safety legislation. But Breaking News!-it returned as anticipated, on Saturday 4th August, 2007....we congratulate the organisers, (including Chair of Directors, Dennis "Sugar" Christopher). Unfortunately, due to unforseen circumstances, we were unable to film the return of the Carnival on this day. However, it seemed a spectacular day, lucky weatherwise and was a massive blow for us to have to miss it. But we are pleased to announce that we are now, set to make up for the loss by capturing footage of it on Saturday 2nd August, 2008!
- We filmed exclusively in Leicester from midday onwards and ended by midnight.
- We interviewed exclusively the Carnival Chairman of Directors, Dennis "Sugar" Christopher, pictured below:

- Despite other events going on in the city to make up for the carnival’s cancellation, I felt it was important to film/focus on a different angle to the day.

Carnival fans-(but looking equally disappointed on no Carnival Day), are Jason, Spencer and co. in the now closed down, "5HQ" record shop in Leicester City Centre, who contributed to the filming.
