Exclusive!-Major "Carnival Fund-Raising Day" planned-Leics-Saturday 5th August, 2006-SSCOM GROUP officially launches as a revised Fund-Raising Management Agency)-part of major film documentary with Edinburgh.

Recent verbal mixed reactions by carnival route businesses in response to receiving PR Survey for the meantime/need for volunteers to get involved in exciting Caribbean Carnival Campaign/joint venture with Edinburgh/major film documentary to kick off year-long mission, including "historic" carnival PR day.

A revised PR/Media & Fund-Raising Management Agency for Leics/Rutland-the SSCOM GROUP-(Simon Shiekh Communications Group) working on a voluntary basis,  which has recently compiled a PR Survey to find out answers about the recently cancelled Leicester Caribbean Carnival for this year, plans to kick off a major film project on Carnival “Fund-Raising Awareness Day”, being Saturday 5th August this year, (which would’ve been carnival day itself). It wants the whole of Leics to be part of this historic day to make up for the previous carnival days that attracted thousands of local people. It proposes that:

  • Day should start from Midnight to Midnight-24 hours.
  • Fund-raising events-indoor and outdoor (the latter to be lobbied to Maggie Shutt-Festivals and Events Co-ordinator of Leicester City Council), to be organised. SSCOM GROUP is interested in using Bede Island Park-(where Riverside Festival took place), for part of the day. Local people to help contribute to this. SSCOM GROUP believes as many offices/shops not normally open on a Saturday, should do so for half a day and host an event. Invitations to get involved open-please contact SSCOM GROUP as to how you'd like to contribute to a historic day. Even if £1 is donated by each person on this day as a welcome contribution (as originally suggested by Chairman of Carnival Committee, Dennis "Sugar" Christopher), SSCOM GROUP will put you into an exclusive draw to win the chance to be a "VIP" on hopefully, Carnival Day-Sat 4th August, 2007.
  • A real chance for locals to contribute with events that they can plan/host for this day. The search is on for them to come forward so they can be considered. Having said that, I'm currently approaching businesses on the carnival route whilst conducting the PR Survey and informing them about this day/negotiating involvement etc.
  • People from Edinburgh should be invited to join us on this historic day; good for tourism in Leics, especially those who attended in recent years, (as SSCOM GROUP is currently working on a joint tourism/multi-culturalism venture which should help to bring in funds needed for the carnival).
  • SSCOM GROUP to visit across the County of Leics with others involved-including group promotions teams to see how fund-raising events are going. Having said this, the Leics Market towns etc should also host events for this day.
  • Interviews with as many people as possible in Leics (including Carnival Organisers/Committee members) to be undertaken in relation to past carnivals, and hopes for it’s return in 2007.

Group Founder/MD, 35 year old Ayaz Sheikh said, "This should be an historic day to come, which will raise the deserved awareness about the Leicester Caribbean Carnival's cancellation for this year. The spirit of the event needs to be kept alive to give the organisers and myself, hope that it will return back for August 2007, of which also stems from my attendance at their AGM on the evening of Tuesday 27th June, Also, it's the official launch of the group as a revised fund-raising Management Agency."

"In addition, a PR Survey that I've compiled, certainly looks set to get those I visited a couple of weekends ago on part of the carnival route, intrigued, and hopefully they will get back to us with the completed survey. I met some interesting characters/received interesting feedback; it seems 50% of those we met would like to see the carnival returned for 2007. Anyone reading this from a shop on the carnival route is rest assured that their answers/identity will remain confidential. I am still to visit more of the carnival route and this hopes to be completed asap.

Leicester East MP-Keith Vaz, sends this message of support for the moment:

"The Carnival is held during the summer season, bringing the whole of the city of Leicester together which has a multi-cultural society. It can be compared to the Mardi Gras of New Orleans, with colourful and eloborate costumes, vibrant music and Caribbean cuisine. This event will be greatly missed by the people of Leicester, on the first Saturday in August 2006."

All other Leics MPs/MEPs have been written to, but Ayaz is now waiting for replies/additional support from them.

Ayaz is also in the process of negotiating with businesses on the carnival route to help him publicise the campaign in their premises and take part in a major publicity/fund-raising contribition; this should prove very interesting over the coming year's campaign if they decide to go-ahead. Having said that, an Indian Restaurant on the carnival route (London Road), namely “Rice N Spice”, will throw it’s weight behind this campaign and be a venue used for filming. SSCOM GROUP has pledged to pay for a meal for 2, up to the value of £25, every month, as of Saturday 5th August onwards, to Saturday 4th August, 2007, and publicise the winners on the group website/local media coverage/in the restaurant itself etc,

Ayaz added, "the plot of the film entitled, "Simon Shiekh: An Insider’s guide to PR, like you’ve never seen before"
is revealed today, exclusively as concentrating on myself playing a dual-role including as “Simon Shiekh”, of who after I find him in Edinburgh, try to convince Simon in asking for his help to bring the Leicester Caribbean Carnival back, and also experiment on tourism/multi-culturalism avenues between the two cities. Simon Shiekh then returns back to Leicester with me after the trip in late August/early September 2006 to work on the campaign for the rest of the year, including more planned trips to Edinburgh. This should hopefully "grip" Leics, as well as Edinburgh!. I'm also pleased to announce that this venture now has the backing of the Leader of Edinburgh City Council, and Radio Forth-the local commercial station there. They should both feature in the film."

Anyone interested in joining as a volunteer/take part in the film/be part of the Carnival Fund-Raising Day for this unique project should either call: 07817 057078, log on to: www.sscom-group.com  e-mail: info@sscom-group.com or write asap to: SSCOM GROUP, PO BOX 5091, LEICESTER, LE4 7XX
