CULTURAL FILM

A city voluntary PR Agency is looking for further Leics locals/organisations and wannabe film buffs to help film/take part in an ambitious film documentary with Edinburgh entitled, "Simon Shiekh: An Insider's Guide to PR-Like you've never seen before", looking at multi-culturalism between the two cities. Edinburgh was chosen because of the cross-cultural friendship between the Founder of the Group and a local Jazz Pianist/Music Teacher, spanning over the last 7 years. The film will also look at the recently canceled Leicester Caribbean Carnival, and it’s possible return for next August, from a multi-cultural angle.

Ayaz Sheikh, 35, the producer of the documentary and Founder/MD of a voluntary public relations agency, Simon Shiekh Communications Group, has already filmed interviews in the Scottish capital. He said, "I have been amazed but am truly grateful for the support of Edinburgh folk, business leaders, local MPs and organisations. Now I'm hoping the success continues Leics wise. Since my last appeal, I’ve been contacted by interested and active members of the local community but would still like more. I'm looking for likewise people who are interested in multi-culturalism to help in the contrasts and similarities between the two cities. I’ve recently filmed Harborough MP-Edward Garnier and Leicester East MP-Keith Vaz.”

SSCOM GROUP says the best is yet to come as further filming heads into 2007, and hopefully, the return of the Caribbean Carnival on 4th August.

Ayaz added, “the carnival was the single most important multi-cultural event on Leicester's calendar. I think it is important that we celebrate the city's cultural diversity."

Marcus Solanki, Member of the Leicester Council of Faiths, Chairman of Savera Resource Centre and Member of Police Advisory Group/Racial Issues said, "This sounds like a fascinating, exciting and unique project never seen in Leics before, let alone in Edinburgh, and looking at multi-culturalism in a positive light is what we need. The comparison between Leics and Edinburgh will be very interesting, and is so far, as I've seen some of the filming. I'm excited to be contributing to this project so far to SSCOM GROUP, and look forward to seeing what's to come before the 4th August next year, which should also hopefully be the return of Leicester Caribbean Carnival Day"

Andy Corbett of Birstall Village Cricket Club said, “I contacted SSCOM GROUP after seeing a recent appeal in the Mercury, as I also run a local cricket club for youngsters in Birstall; I welcome the opportunity for more youngsters from all walks of life/ethnicity to nurture their talent with us and offer a real challenge for our club. Also I’ve recently begun a neighbourhood watch scheme in Syston where I live, and this includes locals from all nationalities which makes it all the more interesting. We all get on very well, but I think as far as the film is concerned, it should help to make a real impact to a diverse city such as here in Leics, and also how it compares to Edinburgh.”

Carl Gunns of Gunns Gym (and of which Andy also helps out) added, “Andy let me know about his recent involvement in the filming; I was intrigued and wondered what it’s all about. Subsequently, SSCOM GROUP visited my gym recently and did some filming. I now think it should be very interesting and the current/future publicity by the Group could help to attract new members of the ethnic minorities of Leics to join my gym; everyone is welcome from all walks of life; it’s the interest and talent that counts. It will also be interesting to see if SSCOM GROUP can manage to find a similar gym to mine in Edinburgh, to help contribute in it’s comparison to subjects Leicswise, featured in the filming so far.”

Dennis “Sugar” Christopher, Chairman of the Leicester Caribbean Carnival, said, “The carnival was a tradition. It was part of the multi-cultural aspect of living in Leicester. I think that the whole city will come together on this to say, 'we want the carnival back’. In addition, the multi-cultural aspect of this film project should make a huge difference as to how the carnival will continuously be perceived. We welcome SSCOM GROUP’s help in this to see if an impact can be made.”

Anyone interested in joining as a volunteer to help film/take part in the film in Leics, and/or receive further information about the project should either call: 07817 057078 or e-mail: sscoms@hotmail.com
