ENGLAND (LEICS) "SMOKING BAN" COMPETITION!
A Leicester Voluntary PR Agency, the SSCOM GROUP’s “People Publicist” for Leics/Edinburgh interviews/continues to seek Edinburgh smokers to enter an “England (Leics) Smoking Ban Competition”. By offering them to appear on film and be interviewed exclusively about their advice to fellow smokers in Leics (as part of the two cities’ PR initiative), they are/will be entered to take part by a £2 fee paid by the group, with the chance to be in the race to win £50! Ayaz Sheikh, 36, Founder/MD of the Group said, “I got the idea for this initiative during my most recent trip to Edinburgh between Saturday 2nd to Tuesday 5th June, where I selected two individuals from Edinburgh to "kick-start" this issue after seeing them clearly smoking outside due to the smoking ban initiated in March 2006. I managed to find an interesting participant so far; I'll leave others to judge in due course! As England (including Leics) are counting down to Sunday 1st July this year when the official ban will come into force, ironically, I'll be back in Edinburgh then for my next trip so I won't be able to see this "change" until my return back home on the evening of Tuesday 3rd July, or most certainly on Wednesday 4th July. As I've never smoked, I’ll be very intrigued & interested to see how my fellow Leics locals including friends, colleagues and SSCOM GROUP contacts adhere to this. Some told me before I came up to Edinburgh that they hope to give up. Others are just trying to gear up for the ban.”
Ayaz first saw the ban in Edinburgh in May last year and found it intriguing as well as interesting. His link to Edinburgh being from a long-term friendship with the person in question, being a smoker, helped to see him not being able to smoke in restaurants and so on. As for here in Leics, Ayaz doesn't have many friends who are smokers but as the “People’s Publicist”, he will continue to respect those who smoke but in turn, hopes they also respect the ban for their own sake. Also, he felt it useful to incorporate this competition initiative into the group's current filming of a documentary, to highlight contributions from Edinburgh locals offering advice to their counterparts in Leics in the run up to the ban and a month into the ban. "It will be interesting to see if anyone else in England would benefit from watching the film. Invitations welcome!", he added.
He hopes to interview further Edinburgh locals during his next trip between Saturday 30th June to Tuesday 3rd July. However, the winner of this competition will be revealed exclusively in Edinburgh on Saturday 28th July (during another trip). In order to choose the winner impartially, Ayaz is looking for a “panel of judges” from Leics alongside his existing contacts to view the film footage after Tuesday 3rd July, and “vote” the best interview to potentially put the Leics’ smoker at ease. Ayaz will not be a “judge” or participate in choosing the winner.
