(Edinburgh Evening News article of:

Leics based Voluntary PR agency hails important breakthrough after recent Edinburgh Hogmanay filming controversy/subsequent trip

Publicist inspired by hospitality of strangers/revellers, (himself attending Hogmanay festivities for the first time ever) ensures filming of multi/inter-culturalism documentary is back on track for an exciting finish-(& incorporating forthcoming celebration of 10 years of agency) after dramatic twist helps to capture exclusive footage/interviews from intrigued street party revellers; SSCOM GROUP bids to organise Hogmanay 2008 with Edinburgh City Council and Leics:

A Leics based voluntary PR agency, the SSCOM GROUP-(Simon Shiekh Communications Group)’s on-going filming for a documentary (since August 2006) looking at multi-culturalism between Leics & Edinburgh, today hailed a vital development after suffering a recent upset.

Controversy was sparked over a recent newspaper article inviting an Edinburgh local to win a ticket for the forthcoming Edinburgh Hogmanay Street Party/Concert in the Gardens. This stemmed from the group’s possible Media Accreditation from the publicity agency over-seeing the event. The offer stemmed after a meeting between the Founder of the Group and the agency/third party was refused whilst visiting Edinburgh recently. However, the group acknowledged that a ticket wasn’t allowed to be given away, but it would’ve bought one for the winner instead. Also in a dramatic twist, the Concert in the Gardens was boycotted (to enable footage to be captured from an ideal view including the fireworks at midnight) despite Leicestershire band, Kasabian playing, from the ticket bought by Ayaz Sheikh-Founder of the Group, who still retains it to this day.

The filming of the documentary which looked set to be confined to the bin (after 17 months), is now back on track and heading for an exciting climax in due course. In addition, SSCOM GROUP is now on course to reveal further developments at forthcoming press conferences in the two cities, including news of it’s new FREE “People’s Publicist” service and a statement on the recent terror attacks in London & Glasgow.

“What struck me is the dis-belief of some locals and existing contacts in Edinburgh, after I arrived in there last Saturday and feeling uncertain as to whether I’d return back home on New Year’s Day, happy or sad, the latter meaning binning the documentary and hailing it a complete waste. However, it still hasn’t sunk in that I’ve returned back with an achievement, but most importantly, justification on filming footage spontaneously and mingling and befriending complete strangers! We were simply up against those who were unwilling to meet and discuss. The opportunity was there when I was in Edinburgh between 8-11 December. I tried to arrange a last-minute meeting with a representative of Edinburgh City Council on New Year's Eve, to no avail. We now aim to ensure that the group’s contacts know how this hurdle has been over-ridden. It will be interesting to see as to what the local MPs in the two cities/MSPs in Edinburgh (who have contributed to the film so far and who’s support was impossible to achieve in time) say about this”, says Ayaz.

SSCOM GROUP is now on the search for more locals from the two cities, to help extend a unique friendship link which is being hailed as a “real first for two British cities-ever!”, interested in learning not to be financially motivated as volunteers and to contribute in putting people first on local issues. There is a real treat for everyone, potentially involved.

“We will give a new meaning to Leics and Edinburgh, let alone two British cities. Ten years of SSCOM GROUP is coming up from March this year-it has to be celebration time. Also, I’m interested in talking to Edinburgh City Council with a unique proposal to organise the Hogmanay Street Party (New Year’s Eve) with them & Leics; they won’t need to pay us for PR-think how much money they can save. I’m looking for the group to start negotiations now. What we need is to nurture real, local talent to contribute/take part in the event (and want to show the film documentary at that event); SSCOM GROUP aims to find that talent. The blow of someone like X-factor winner, Leon Jackson not being able to attend the Hogmanay celebrations, due to no fault of his own, need never be experienced again, as we aim to have contingency plans in place. I found out that some revellers were disappointed”, added Ayaz.
