SSCOM GROUP-Tell us about yourself....
Ayaz - I’m best described as an interesting, exciting and witty person, with a friendly personality who likes to help people. Though I was born and bred in Leicester, my family roots come from Africa/India and I would like to visit there one day. I’m also single, I get on with all kinds of people/all walks of life and you could say I’m a cosmopolitan person. Also, I have an excellent memory apparently, according to a colleague of mine from my full-time work.
SSCOM GROUP - What interests/hobbies do you have?
Ayaz -I like watching Sport on TV, including Cricket & Football, Spending time on the Internet & E-mails, travelling, listening to music on CD and radio, cinema, dining out and raising money for charity. I’m also into factual and reality TV, comedy and reading non-fiction. I also love music, mainly 80’s and have a massive record collection from that era. In addition, I'm an armchair Leicester City Football Club supporter (as well as Leicester Tigers Rugby/Leics County Cricket Club and Leicester Riders Basketball)
SSCOM GROUP - What do you do/did for a living?
Ayaz - I work full-time in the voluntary sector of which I enjoy-have been in my current job for 3 years. Beforehand, I've worked on various temporary agency assignments, including in Customer Services, Call Centres, Receptionist and in the Retail sector.
In addition, my past fund-raising events have included donating to Comic Relief back in February 1988 whilst a college student, spending 12 hours on as many buses as possible in Leicester in July 1992, taking part in a 12-hour "haunted dungeon experience" in April 1994, (which was re-surrected with the 'I'm a Scared Student' project), and a 24-hour radio broadcast at Bradford University in May 1995. ITV Telethon '92, LOROS, Shelter and the Bradford Burns Research Unit have all benefited from my fund-raising efforts over the last 20 years, in total, raising £1314 to date. I have also worked for quite a few Voluntary Organisations and have gained a lot of experience. It’s given me personal satisfaction and allowed me to develop my essential personal skills and other skills like confidence and inter-personal skills.
SSCOM GROUP - What do you get up to in your spare time?
Ayaz - I go to Edinburgh every so often for my current film project, otherwise I'm out and about, networking for SSCOM GROUP.
SSCOM GROUP - What/who inspires you?
Ayaz -
Certain celebrities, TV presenters and Radio DJs for their ability to build a rapport with the public and people who professionally raise funds, particularly Bob Geldof. I would love to make an impact for people like he has. The City of Edinburgh is a great inspiration just so vibrant not a moment to be bored! Also, not forgetting my family, friends (including those in Edinburgh who I've managed to "click" with, in such a short space of time!-you know who you are!), and those here in Leicester.
SSCOM GROUP -
Are there any questions that you wish we'd have asked?
Ayaz - Yes: Why don't people take me more seriously?
SSCOM GROUP - What’s the answer?
Ayaz - Because it's a fear of the unknown and not being realistic. I can inspire anyone via my enthusiasm and zest for life!
